Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas Announces New Campus in Henderson
Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas (CASLV), a state-sponsored public charter school, announced the opening its fourth campus in Henderson for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. Formerly a University of Phoenix campus, the 40,000-square-foot building is located at 7777 Eastgate Road and will be the new CASLV campus. With plans for tenant improvements, the building will be ready to open by the first day of school in August 2018. The new campus will serve students in kindergarten through 7th grade and help fulfill the current high demand from Henderson families and prospective students. “We’re thrilled to open this new campus and look forward to continuing to serve the Henderson community,” said CASLV Executive Director Ercan Aydogdu. “There is a huge demand for another Science Technology Engineering and Math, also known as STEM, charter school in the area. Nevada State Bank helping 98.5 KLUC Toy Drive

Henderson West Proposed Development Plan Unanimously Approved by Henderson City Council
On Tuesday night, the Henderson City Council unanimously voted in favor of the proposed Regional Mixed-Use zone change for the 103-acre Henderson West proposed development plan. CCCU Reports Record Growth Numbers for 2017
Highest assets in 65 years Numbers continue to climb this year for Clark County Credit Union (CCCU), hitting a record $700 million in assets for the first time in its more than 65-year history. With six branches throughout the Las Vegas valley and an aggressive advertising campaign designed to increased awareness of the credit union’s unique benefits, more and more new members are joining CCCU each month. This year’s asset growth rate is running at 10.9%, with membership growth at 9.62%. The credit union’s loan growth rate, 11.63%, is the strongest of all the numbers and each statistic is an indicator that CCCU’s services are hitting the mark with its member base. Mark Andrews, CCCU’S Chief Marketing Officer, attributes the record growth to a number of factors. “Adding commercial accounts and commercial lending has helped many more of our members with their business needs, and helped our own ratios to improve,” said Andrews. “We’ve also been able to reach a lot of new members through our marketing efforts. Plus, it has been a great economy lately. That also goes for our members, those working in the medical industry, first responders and other government sector employees.” CCCU promotes Julie Goe to Marketing Manager Clark County Credit Union (CCCU) recently promoted Julie Goe from Marketing Coordinator to Marketing Manager, a position that works with and promotes all six of the credit union’s full-service branches. RTC celebrates 25 years as transit agency for Southern Nevada
On Tuesday, December 5, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) celebrated its 25th anniversary as the transit agency for the Las Vegas Valley. To mark the occasion, RTC staff spent the day traveling to various locations throughout the transit system in branded community outreach vehicles to thank customers for riding. A total of ten surprise celebrations were held featuring donated giveaways, complimentary transit passes and the opportunity to win one of several grand prizes including one year of free transit. In addition, McDonald’s provided complimentary breakfast items to riders traveling through the Bonneville Transit Center, the RTC’s largest transit center. Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican to Offer Stop the Bleed Trainings to Train Public on Critical Care Response
In partnership with University Medical Center and the City of Henderson, Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican Hospital will be offering “Stop the Bleed” trainings for the public to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. The trainings are centered on providing the public with quick lifesaving skills to quickly stop a heavy bleed while awaiting the arrival of emergency responders. Touro University Nevada and Nevada State College Announce New Partnership to Promote Medical Health Sciences for Future Healthcare Students
Touro University Nevada (TUN) and Nevada State College (NSC) have entered into an agreement that will provide a pathway for students interested in pursuing careers in health care to participate in an accelerated double degree program which will allow them to receive a dual bachelor’s and master’s degree. Following their junior year at NSC, selected students will matriculate into TUN as full-time Medical Health Sciences students. Before they begin their academic journeys at Touro, students will participate in a Summer Learning Enhancement Program that includes sessions on study skills, time management, medical terminology, the medical curriculum and basic science review. One Year Going on Two Wheels: RTC Bike Share celebrates first birthday in style
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) launched RTC Bike Share last year and is celebrating the first birthday with major milestones. With 21 stations and 180 bikes located throughout downtown Las Vegas, RTC Bike Share has been a popular transportation option with more than 9,000 passes sold in its inaugural year of operation. In the first year alone, riders completed over 18,000 rides, spanning nearly 60,000 miles while burning more than 2.3 million calories. CCCU hits record number of members in its 65+ year history
Clark County Credit Union’s member base rose this summer as quickly as the Las Vegas temperatures, hitting a record high of just over 40,000 members and 50,000 accounts. This is the most accounts CCCU has ever had in its 66 years of operation. The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is hitting the road with a retrofitted 40-foot bus that has been meticulously designed to get the Southern Nevada community engaged and excited to talk about their future transit plan – On Board. CSN Announces Nevada Promise Scholarship Program Open for Applicants
The College of Southern Nevada is urging this year’s high school seniors to apply for a Nevada Promise Scholarship. It could mean an entirely tuition-free college degree. Nevada Promise is a state-funded program that will pay all tuition and mandatory fees that are not covered by other forms of financial aid for those who are eligible. Southern Nevada’s Largest Medical School Announces Increase To Class Size
The American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) granted Touro University Nevada unanimous board approval on August 26 to substantially expand its class size, thus the institution will continue leading the state of Nevada as its largest medical school. “Touro’s presentation to the COCA board to expand and welcome additional students was met with resounding approval. Joseph DeSimone Jr., owner of the Railroad Pass Hotel and Casino and Henderson based real estate firm, First Federal Realty DeSimone announced today the appointment of the property’s new General Manager, Joe Wilcock. Mr. Wilcock brings over 35 years of experience working in the casino industry at properties including Caesars Palace, Caesars Tahoe, Sands, Dunes, Golden Nugget, Mirage and Treasure Island. He grew up in the restaurant business under the tutelage of his father, a chef. Touro University Nevada Medical Students Pave Way for Improved Marijuana DUI Testing
In mid-May, Nevada lawmakers passed bill AB135 and Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed, creating a new law that will change the standard for DUI testing for marijuana impairment thanks to the dedication and hard work of two medical students. Graham Lambert and Charles Cullison, Touro University Nevada medical students, provided integral research and information to lawmakers to change from urine testing to blood testing as the primary assessment for those thought to be driving under the influence of marijuana. Lambert, a former Petty Officer and Avionics Specialist in the United States Navy and Cullison, a native Nevadan, recently completed their second year of medical school and will soon begin clinical rotations as third-year students. Both are pursuing their medical education as part of the military’s Health Professions Scholarship Program and will be commissioned as active duty officers at the end of their medical training. It’s a wonderful program; creative, beautiful and innovative, that gets basic services to our veterans who desperately need them.” Under the supervision of TUN faculty, students working on the Touro Mobile Healthcare Clinic have the opportunity to provide medical care to those living in the Las Vegas Valley’s most underserved communities. The clinic provides a variety of services to Southern Nevada’s homeless population, including physical examinations, wellness checks, wound care, and more. “We are excited to form this tremendous partnership with Veterans Village 2 as we work together to solve the veteran homelessness problem within our community,” said Dr. Phil Tobin, Director of Touro’s Physician Assistant Program. “Our goal is to better prepare our students for their future as healthcare providers while offering quality care to those who need it most.” In 2014, Touro established its first mobile healthcare clinic through the generous support of private donors. US News & World Report has named Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas (CASLV) one of the top high schools in Nevada
US News reviewed 28,496 public high schools across the United States. In Nevada, 32 schools received national gold, silver and bronze medals. Of those schools, 10 were awarded a gold or silver medal, making them eligible for a state ranking. In this ranking, CASLV won sixth place, making CASLV the only charter school in Nevada to receive a silver medal. CASLV is a K-12 state sponsored, tuition-free public charter school where students are selected by a lottery system. The school’s curriculum focuses on STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The school’s mission is to provide a safe, rigorous college preparatory environment, promoting social responsibility and a culturally-diverse community dedicated to becoming lifelong learners bound for success. The Rose de Lima campus is the only hospital in southern Nevada to receive this distinction, and one of only four throughout Nevada. RTC’s Club Ride program marks another record year in 2016
Record performance continued in 2016 for Club Ride Commuter Services, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s (RTC) free eco-friendly program that incentivizes employers and commuters for using alternative transportation modes. In its year-end report, Club Ride, which customizes commute programs for more than 350 area employers, registered nearly 10,000 new members who commute by carpooling, walking, bicycling, motorcycling, transit, telecommuting and working a compressed workweek, such as four 10-hour shifts. Overall, members saved nearly $2.25 million on vehicle costs such as fuel and maintenance costs and eliminated over 7.2 million vehicle miles from the valley’s roadways. Barrick Expanding Henderson Office
On the heels of Barrick’s recently announced digital transformation, the Canadian-based gold mining company plans to expand its Henderson office both in terms of workforce and space. Southwest Medical Associates donates $145,000 to enhance training of Touro University Nevada Physician Assistant students
Southwest Medical Associates, part of OptumCare, donated $145,000 to the Touro University Nevada Physician Assistant Studies Program to fund the purchase of new equipment and training materials. The donation enabled the Touro Physician Assistant Program to purchase three ultrasound machines and models. Students will use these tools to learn about and practice performing joint injections, and will allow the institution to enhance the curriculum to include joint injections and bedside procedures like venous access and FAST scans. Las Vegas Credit Union Gives Back Millions to its Members’ Accounts
In an age where financial institutions are all-too-often in the news for inflated salaries, golden parachutes and misappropriated funds, Clark County Credit Union is doing the opposite: taking profits and giving them back to its member-owners as an annual dividend. As a long-standing tradition in the credit union’s history, the non-profit is distributing earnings back to its members. This year’s dividend payment is $3,002,536.08, creating a grand total of $56 million pumped back into the pockets of CCCU members, and ultimately, into the Southern Nevada economy since 2001. All 40,000 CCCU members will receive at least $20 deposited into their accounts this month, though the average dividend payment this year is $73.74.
